Tonkei is the youngest son of the late Ole Taek, the Maasai Chief who inspired the founding of Basecamp Explorer Kenya back in 1997. To this day, Tonkei’s family owns the land where Basecamp Masai Mara is constructed and he lives together with his family just outside the entrance gates. Over the years Tonkei has played a fundamental part of the Basecamp Family, acting both as a sought-after Head Guide and as an essential point of contact with the Maasai community. Today he is involved in the general management of the day-to-day running of Basecamp Masai Mara. Away from work, Tonkei enjoys tending to his livestock.
