Kay Varpen
When you arrive at Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel you are greeted by a stout, smiling fellow. Kay Varpen is the station manager at Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel and came to our wilderness hotel in the summer of 2022. But he looks like he has a spent years at the radio station in the west. Kay is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and take action where needed, a quality that is absolutely necessary for a host who will operate a first-class hotel in a desolate location. From driving a tractor and washing bed linen, to warm hospitality and an eye for details.
Kay has worked in the service industry all his adult life, and has developed bar concepts and been deep into the details of hotel operations. Five years in a row he has visited Svalbard as a guest, and with each and every visit his fascination and joy at being in the mighty nature of the north increased. In 2021 he visited Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel for the first time.
– I thought: Wow! This is really special! Unique location, great impressions, weather (!!!), delicious food and drinks and a attentive and service-minded staff. It was easy to apply for the position as station manager at Isfjord Radio, explains Kay.
The seasons are hectic at the hotel at Kapp Linné, but when Kay has a little free time, he takes his camera out into the arctic nature. And there he conjures endlessly beautiful photos, which he shares on his Instagram account. We recommend following him: @kayvarpen
