Return of the sun

2 days snowmobile trip to Isfjord Radio

After more than two months the polar night is slowly losing its grip and the days grow longer. On clear days the sky has different blue colors mixed with pink and purple shades. Suddenly the purple color finds its way to the nearest mountain and you feel you are experiencing one of the world’s most exiting changes. From this moment light is revealing the landscape rapidly, searching to fill every valley with light. This is defenately the most beautiful time of the year!

Day 1

Our guide will meet you in the reception at your hotel at 10 am. You will get information about the snowmobiles, clothing and the programme for the next few days. We head out into the winter landscape and travel in direction of Cape Linnè and Isfjord Radio. We make a number of interesting stops along the way. Expedition lunch is eaten outdoors. If the weather and snow conditions are favourable, we ride through Barentsburg; the Russian settlement on Svalbard. Our hosts at Isfjord Radio will welcome you and show you to your comfortable rooms. Before dinner we will meet for an aperitif and celebrate the suns return over the horizon after several months of darkness. Three-course dinner at Isfjord radio. Accommodation in double rooms at Isfjord Radio.

This trip is not suitable for persons suffering from back pains. Pregnant women cannot participate on any snowmobile safaris arranged by Basecamp Spitsbergen. Basecamp takes no responsibility to any health issues, due to neglecting this advice.

In Spitsbergen, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms, thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. This means we might need to make changes to the planed route, and this might lead up us not arriving to the planned destination. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program.

As part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen’s efforts to be climate neutral, there will be an additional climate investment charge of NOK 250 per guest.  This is donated in its entirety to Basecamp Foundation’s forestry project in Masai Mara, Kenya. The trees bind CO2 and contribute to reducing the effects of emissions associated with our activities – and your travel.

Combine your stay with accommodation at the most unique hotel at Longyearbyen – Basecamp Hotel.
