4 days summer adventure in Longyearbyen, Svalbard

This 4 days summer adventure is the perfect summer getaway. When thinking about your summer holiday destination, how about a quiet small town close to North Pole surrounded by arctic silence and scenery? This remote destination, Svalbardl , offers the perfect setting for a family adventure!

Day 1

After arrival to Longyearbyen, you may catch the airport shuttlebus taking you direct to Basecamp Hotel. Check in from 14:00, and some time to explore Longyearbyen on your own. Lunch at a local restaurant is recommended before the afternoon activity.

At 16:00 you will meet your guide in the reception area to go through the program. The guide will take you to the Trappers Station where the dog yard is located. 90 excited Alaskan Huskies great you upon arrival and are all eagerly waiting to take you on a trip. In this exciting environment you will be taught the basics of handling the dogs and help to harness them to the wagon yourself. 2 people share a wagon and whilst one is driving the other can enjoy the arctic summer. After the tour you will help the guide put the dogs back into the yard before enjoying some hot drinks and snack. Children under the age of 6 will get to go on a fun and easy husky walk in nearby surroundings. If we are lucky we may have puppies? Return to Longyearbyen in the evening, and dinner is arranged on your own.

In Spitsbergen, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms, thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. This means we might need to make changes to the planed route, and this might lead up us not arriving to the planned destination. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program.

Program is for families and day to day program can be switched around.

As part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen’s efforts to be climate neutral, there will be an additional climate investment charge of NOK 250 per guest. This is donated in its entirety to Basecamp Foundation’s forestry project in Masai Mara, Kenya. The trees bind CO2 and contribute to reducing the effects of emissions associated with our activities – and your travel.
