MEETING AT Edge of the world

4 days snowmobile adventure to Isfjord Radio in Spitsbergen

This Arctic Adventure on Svalbard combines work with unforgettable adventures! Let us guide you through the arctic wilderness to our remote Adventure Hotel Isfjord Radio situated about 90 km from civilisation of Longyearbyen and surrounded with arctic silence. During the snowmobile expedition, we will ride over glaciers, mountains and frozen fjords, and visit the Russian mining town Barentsburg. Combined with our unique accommodation, you will enjoy a level of quality and comfort that is unexpected so far into the wilderness. All work and no fun makes us dull explorers!

Day 1

Arrival to Svalbard where our Basecamp guide greets you at the airport and takes care of transport to Basecamp Hotel. This is the basecamp for your expedition in Spitsbergen, decorated in authentic trapper’s style down to the very last detail. You can choose to spend the afternoon on your own wandering around the world’s northernmost town or we can arrange meeting room with lunch for you to get a good start for the agenda. Maybe you want to try dogsledding and a dinner in Trapper’s style?

Day 2

At 10:00 am our guide will meet you in the reception at Basecamp hotel. You will have good time to sit down with our guide, talk about the coming trip, possible routes and needed equipment. After the briefing, you will get warm clothing, like the overall and winter boots, and then head to the snowmobiles. It is time for the snowmobile adventure to Isfjord Radio! After a lesson for snowmobile drive and safety issues, you will head out to the wilderness. You will drive over glaciers, past snow covered mountains and frozen fjords. While sitting on the snowmobile you can admire the magnificent arctic landscape in blue and white. We make several stops along the way, among others the Russian settlement Barentsburg. It is a fascinating place to visit, like stepping into the old Soviet Union. We take a walk around the town before sitting down for a Russian style lunch. At arrival to Isfjord Radio, our staff will warmly welcome you to the Adventure hotel, the last frontier before Greenland. There is time to sit down at the meeting room before a delicious 3-course meal is served. What a way to finish the adventurous day!

This trip is not suitable for persons suffering from back pains. Pregnant women cannot participate on any snowmobile safaris arranged by Basecamp Spitsbergen. Basecamp takes no responsibility to any health issues, due to neglecting this advice.

In Spitsbergen, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms, thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. This means we might need to make changes to the planed route, and this might lead up us not arriving to the planned destination. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program.

As part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen’s efforts to be climate neutral, there will be an additional climate investment charge of NOK 250 per guest.  This is donated in its entirety to Basecamp Foundation’s forestry project in Masai Mara, Kenya. The trees bind CO2 and contribute to reducing the effects of emissions associated with our activities – and your travel. For more information, please visit:
