In many parts of Kenya, regular dental visits are not common outside privileged urban regions. Most people living in rural areas have to travel long distances to seek dental treatment and will go to the dental clinic because they are in pain. This is the case even in the Masai Mara. For a long time, the Maasais within Talek, have been forced to travel over 100 km to seek dental medical care in Narok town.

To help with this situation, this year Basecamp Explorer in collaboration with the Serenity Dental Team from the United States of America will offer a free dental screening and treatment at Talek Health Centre in Masai Mara on 22nd and 23rd October 2019. To bring healthy, beautiful and confident smiles to the local people in Talek, the team of competent doctors will render their services by providing a range of dental treatments including routine check-up, dental surgery, tooth removal, fillings and dental cleaning.

Besides creating unforgettable safari experiences for our guests, we are deeply committed to transforming lives through tourism. Since the beginning, we have partnered with the Maasai to put in place different community programs that improve living conditions and build local capacity.

Over the years, we have seen this transform the areas where Basecamp operates in Masai Mara to an incredible safari destination due to them being good places to live in and good places to visit. Tourism is indeed a powerful tool for community development when it involves the local community and all key stakeholders.
