BASECAMP EXPLORER KENYA WINS 2019 ECO WARRIOR AWARD
We are proud to announce that Basecamp Explorer Kenya is the winner of the 14th Edition of the 2019 Eco Warrior Awards under the Social Impact category. Organized by Ecotourism Kenya, the awards celebrate ecotourism best practices and recognize initiatives that demonstrate a linkage and commitment to responsible tourism.
For us, sustainable tourism is one of the fundamental aspects of our operations. We have aligned all our operations to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG’s) delivering on 16 out of 17 UNSDG’s.
Our long-standing commitment helps us transform the lives of the local Maasai community. Activities by the 158 local Maasai women have helped them light up their homes while providing food, clothing, healthcare, and education for their children. We have also planted over 170,000 trees in the Talek Region in Masai Mara. Over the next 20 years, these trees will absorb over 81,000 tons of carbon.
These activities and more enable us to contribute to eradicating poverty, implement social protection systems, support local community investments, enterprises and create jobs for the local Maasai community, key focus areas in the Eco Warrior Awards judging process. With a renewed drive and as we celebrate the 2019 World Tourism Day, we anticipate many more years of sustainable development in Masai Mara.
The Eco-Warrior Award is a Kenyan tourism award that recognizes and celebrates outstanding contributions to ecotourism practice in Kenya. It is aimed at motivating winning ventures/operations and industries at large to embrace practices that are ecologically and ethically sustainable to compete with the best in the world.
