The WILDEBEEST tales

The great migration is an amazing and unforgettable experience for every traveler. This itinerary combines the unfolding drama of the wildebeest migration on the majestic plains of the Masai Mara with various safari activities such as night game drives in the Naboisho Conservancy, cultural encounters with the Maasai’s and the possibility to visit some of the community projects supported by Basecamp. This is a perfect safari for a guest who wants to experience the beauty and drama of the migration in elegance and style.

Day 1

Your migration safari starts with a touch down at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport. Our driver guide will transfer to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Masai Mara. On arrival, you will be met by our Masai guide for transfer to Eagle View in Mara Naboisho. Mara Naboisho is a community-owned nature conservancy bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve. During the migration period, the seemingly endless plains, are dotted with wildebeests, zebras among other wildlife. Arrive at Eagle View in time for lunch. You will have some time to settle into your tented room before joining your guide on a late evening game drive for an exciting game viewing adventure.

Day 2

After breakfast, spend the rest of the day with game drives and activities in Mara Naboisho. Visit our community project – Koiyaki Guiding School where young Maasai’s learn about conservation and wildlife guiding skills. A short lunch follows, and then you will be back out in the safari vehicles to seek out wildlife and explore the rich landscapes of the Naboisho Conservancy. Wind up your evening with a sundowner before heading back to camp for your overnight stay.

Day 3

Spend a full day with a picnic lunch exploring the Masai Mara and you’ll soon realize why this reserve is so highly regarded as the best reserve in Africa. Every year, millions of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson’s gazelle pound their way across the savannas in an instinctual survival of the fittest. Another big draw card to the Masai Mara is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. Return for dinner at Leopard Hill.

Day 4

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives from the camp as well as short walking safaris, a night game drive and sundowner out in the bush. Leopard Hill gives you an opportunity to experience the magic of the savannah while enjoying the modern luxury of the camp. Since the camp is situated in a private conservancy, the number of camps and vehicles here are strictly limited giving you by far the best safari experience away from the busier areas of the Masai Mara Park. Return to camp for dinner before falling asleep under the African sky.

Day 5

Take time to enjoy your unparalleled surroundings at Leopard Hill. Treat yourself to a relaxing massage session in the comfort of your tent (at an extra cost book with reception). In the evening watch as the sun sets over the horizon with sundowner drink at the Leopard Hill while you admire the views of the wilderness around. Enjoy dinner prepared by our skilled chefs and you can end the day with a stargazing experience right inside your tent where you have an adjustable motorized roof that gently slides back for a perfect nightly scene.

Day 6

Make the most of your last day engaging in optional safari activities for the better part of the morning. After breakfast have a laid back break as you pack your personal belongings. After a hearty lunch bid your Maasai host goodbye. Your transfer to the airstrip will include a game drive en-route so keep your camera ready as never know when the lion cubs may turn up! Reach the Naboisho Air Strip in time for your scheduled 4 pm flight, the perfect departure time for international connections or to continue on your African adventure.
