Experience the Great Migration

Visiting Masai Mara during migration season is the ultimate way of experiencing the last multi-species migration on the planet. From mid-June to December more than a million wildebeest, zebras and antelopes scatter the vast plains of the Mara, making this natural wonder even more wondrous.

Day 1

Upon arriving at Olkiombo Airstrip our friendly and knowledgeable Maasai guide will be waiting to transfer you to the camp. Arrive at Basecamp Masai Mara in time to settle into your room and enjoy some lunch before an afternoon safari activity. During your afternoon game drive, you will witness how the constant battle for survival makes the migration season a particularly exhilarating time to visit Masai Mara. As the sun sets you will return to camp for dinner. Listen to your Maasai guide tell stories about their culture with the grazing wildebeest herds just across the river.

Day 2

Enjoy morning and afternoon safari activities from Basecamp Masai Mara. Game drives are the best way to see the big wildlife including the famous big cats of the Masai Mara. For the big cats – the lions, the cheetah and the leopards, the migration season is a time of abundance. The vast amount of available prey allows the cats to grow strong, and produce healthy offspring. Return to camp for dinner, followed by story sharing and stargazing around the fireplace.

Take a tour to learn how Basecamp supports the local Maasai community by visiting Basecamp Maasai Brand a Fairtrade-certified handicraft business that enables Maasai women to apply their beading skills to produce and sell their handcrafted products, providing them with a reliable source of income.

After breakfast, spend your time relaxing in camp watching the wildlife right in front of your tent. The camp has a lot of eco-initiatives which you may wish to learn about during your stay.
