WILD FAMILY SAFARI

A family safari in the heart of the Masai Mara is an experience with activities for the entire family.  With plenty of opportunities to learn and grow together, memories made together last a lifetime. Our family safari itineraries are tailor-made to suit each family for the duration of their stay, taking into consideration the age of the children and any special interests or requests.

Day 1

Upon landing at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and transferred to Wilson Airport by our driver-guide for a scheduled flight to Masai Mara. At Olkiombo Airstrip in Masai Mara, our skilled Maasai guide will be waiting to transfer you to your camp with a short game drive en route. The park is famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is home to the big five among other wildlife. Arrive at Basecamp Masai Mara for lunch. After lunch, relax in your tent. For the children, an introduction to the Young Explorers Club is a great icebreaker. Free time is spent drawing, colouring, and building puzzles all with safari theme to keep the children entertained. Head out for an afternoon game drive to explore the Masai Mara National Reserve. Return to camp for dinner followed by story sharing around the fireplace

Day 2

Rise early for a morning game drive. Before heading off for your game drive, the children are given a wildlife workbook in which they can record the wildlife they will see on the game drive. Try and spot any wildlife you may have missed the previous day. Later, head back to camp where breakfast awaits you. The children spend their morning with a Maasai naturalist, who will pass on his bush survival-skills and traditions like how to make a bow and arrow and how to make a toothbrush from a tree. Your afternoon game drive includes a stop for sundowners which is something your children will always remember. Return to camp for dinner, followed by story sharing and stargazing around the fireplace.

After having breakfast you will set out for a camp walk adventure. Head out to the tree plantation to identify plants and learn about the benefit of these trees to the local Maasai community. Each child will have time to help in transplanting tree seedlings that will be used to re-wild the Mara. Alternatively (At a small fee) they can also plant their own trees just like the Obama Family. After lunch, enjoy an arts and crafts session where children spend their time drawing and colouring. They also learn how to decorate one’s face in various patterns and shapes using Masai cultural materials. After your afternoon game drive, return to camp for dinner, followed by story sharing and stargazing around the fireplace.

At mealtimes, our chefs are usually more than happy to have the children spend some time with them in the kitchen. The young explorers can learn the art of cooking and baking dozens of animal-shaped cookies and cakes. End your day with a stargazing experience right inside your tent where you have a retractable roof that gently slides back for a perfect nightly scene.
