EXPLORERS FAMILY SAFARI

This safari allows families to discover and experience the wonders that Masai Mara has to offer. Witness the diverse and wildlife-rich natural landscapes of the Masai Mara Reserve and Mara Naboisho Conservancy renowned for their high density of wildlife as your children learn about the wonders of the bush in the comfort of the camp’s environment. There is always a watchful eye of an experienced Maasai guide available, to ensure the children are kept busy and safe, while the parents can relax and enjoy their stay.

Day 1

On arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Kenya, a driver-guide will meet and transfer you to Wilson Airport for a short flight to Masai Mara. If you have a late-night flight or an early morning arrival, we can arrange for your accommodation in Nairobi to unwind and relax before your departure to Masai Mara at an extra cost (enquire upon booking). At the Masai Mara airstrip, one of our friendly Maasai guides will be waiting to take you on your very first game drive en-route to camp. Enjoy the exceptional wildlife in Masai Mara. Arrive at Basecamp Masai Mara in time for lunch. Whilst the parents are settling in the children can get acquainted with our Young Explorers Club where they will be informed about the fun activities on offer. For a start, the children will be engaged in animal puzzles and board games. Later as a family, head out for an afternoon game drive. As the sun sets, return to camp for dinner followed by story sharing around the fireplace.

Day 2

Embark on a Masai Mara safari during a morning game drive to see its magnificent wildlife up-close. Little explores will love spotting the abundant wildlife. Watch out for herds of eland, impala and gazelle avoiding the pride of lions that rule the kingdom in this savannah. Later head back to camp for breakfast.

After breakfast, the family will join their guide on a camp walk designed to introduce the young explorers to the camp’s surroundings. Children become young conservationists by helping out in planting tree seedlings at the plantation area. Alternatively (at a minimal fee) plant your tree and help us re-wild the Mara. Explore the plantation area, your children will love becoming little explores as they spot some of the 300 bird species that thrive within the Basecamp Masai Mara Forest. Head back to camp for lunch.

The afternoon is spent at leisure. The board games, puzzles, and playing cards all with a safari theme will keep everyone entertained. End your day watching the sunset over Mara plains, with a Basecamp sundowner. After dinner, sit out with the children, look up into the star-studded sky. Your guide is good at spotting the innumerable planets and stars out there! The stargazing experience is normally spectacular from this remote area.

Day 3

Start your day with an early morning game drive. Head back to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, meet up with your guide for a walk around the Enjolaata Centre where we invite all guests to an exciting learning experience about the Maasai Culture. The centre houses various facilities including exhibition halls, video editing rooms, a library, the Basecamp Masai Brand workshop all aiming at highlighting the rich blend of the Maasai culture and enhance the safari experience for our guests.

You will be transferred to Eagle View in Mara Naboisho Conservancy with a game drive en-route. Arrive at Eagle View for lunch. Whilst the parents are settling in the children will be engaged in animal puzzles and board games. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner and you can end your day storytelling by the campfire place. Fall asleep to the sounds of an Africa lion roaring or the cry of a lone hyena.

Day 4

While at Eagle View you don’t need to wander far to watch the wildlife as they frequent the close by watering hole all day long. Parents together with children older than 12 years join their guide for an early morning walking safari.

During the guided walks, the experienced Maasai guide will be narrating facts and figures about the wildlife, birds, insects, trees and shrubs along the way.  While those with younger children the children will stay at camp in the great company of a Masai guide as parents head out for a guided walking safari. The Maasai guide will keep the children entertained as he shares knowledge about Mara’s wildlife. They also spend time drawing, colouring, and building puzzles all with a nature theme.

In the afternoon the family will visit Koiyaki Guiding School (KGS). Several of our Maasai Guides are graduates from KGS and we continue to work closely with the school to empower the local youth. Wind up your afternoon game drive with a Basecamp sundowner of drinks as you watch the sun sinking slowly over the Mara plains. As darkness sets in, this is your opportunity to experience a night game drive en-route to camp.

Eagle View

Day 5

Make the most of your last morning game drive safari complete with a picnic breakfast before heading back to camp. At camp, you will have some time to gather your belongings. After lunch, bid your hosts a fond farewell and depart for the airstrip. Enjoy your last game drive en-route arriving at Naboisho Airstrip in time for your scheduled afternoon flight the perfect departure time for international
