ENRICHING & IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCe

The Educational Safari has been designed to offer guests an engaging experience, which provides greater awareness to the intricate relationship between wildlife, community and tourism. The safari is ideal for schools wanting to take students on a unique educational journey to some of the fascinating places in Masai Mara. It is also an exciting trip for adventure seekers, solo travellers, and families with children or young adults who want to engage in a different learning experience.

Spend six days combining the thrilling excitement of being on safari together with a series of educational, insightful and positive impact experiences in Masai Mara, Naboisho Conservancy, and Pardamat Conservation Area in Kenya. This safari highlights how wildlife conservation and community empowerment can go hand in hand with tourism and, throughout your stay, you have the chance to visit various sustainable initiatives to learn about our projects first-hand.

Day 1

Early pick up from your Nairobi hotel by our driver for a road transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve. Heading out of Nairobi, just before descending into the Great Rift Valley, enjoy a brief stop to marvel at the stunning landscape that stretches before you and the extinct volcano of Mount Longonot rising from the valley floor. Continuing the journey to Narok town, with a quick stop to stretch your legs before the last stage of the drive to Basecamp Masai Mara for lunch. Basecamp Masai Mara sits on a picturesque bend in the Talek river in one of the most game-rich areas of the Masai Mara National Reserve. After checking in you will be shown to your tent. After lunch, there is time to relax and take in the new surroundings. Later in the afternoon, meet the guide for a brief introduction to the Enjoolata Center, where we invite guests to an exciting learning experience about the Maasai culture. The centre houses various aspects that highlight the rich customs of the Maasai culture, wildlife in the area and showcase the numerous projects that will give them a glimpse of the educational safari experience that awaits them. Late afternoon game drive in Masai Mara Reserve, exploring the vast reserve in our open-sided safari customised vehicles. Marvel at the diverse wildlife and explore this beautiful area, learning about its history, challenges, wildlife and habitat through the knowledgeable guide. Return to camp for dinner, served under the African skies, as you share the adventures of your first day in the bush. Later sit around the campfire listening to stories of the bush.

Day 2

Awake to the various sounds of the Mara. After your coffee/tea head out on an early morning game drive. Explore the incredible concentration of diverse African wildlife led by our expert Maasai Guide. Return to camp later in the morning for a hearty breakfast along the Talek River followed by a short lecture at the Enjoolata Center, learning about the Basecamp’s story and why our community and conservation models are working. Later take a walk to the tree plantation area where we have planted more than 250,000 trees to transform Basecamp Masai Mara into a “micro-climate” area. You will have the opportunity to visit the tree nursery and then plant your own tree in the tree plantation area, just like the Obama family. Next, you will visit our waste management project, where you will learn how our waste collection and recycling has transformed the area. Lunch will be served in the camp’s garden under the dappled shade of the acacia trees. In the afternoon head over to Enjoolata Center to visit the Basecamp Masai Brand, one of our capacity-building projects that employ over 150 Maasai women. You are welcome to explore and purchase the products the Maasai Mamas produce. Later take a stroll around our Organic vegetable garden at Basecamp Masai Mara to see our farm-to-table experience. Our kitchens embrace international cuisine, with a variety of recipes that are prepared by skillful chefs who make sure guests enjoy tasty and healthier meals. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. At sunset, gather at the viewing point for sundowner followed by dinner and later watch a movie under the stars, as you listen to the sounds of the wild.

Day 3

Enjoy breakfast in the camp’s restaurant. After, listen to an educational lecture about the Naboisho conservancy model and how this coexistence benefits conservation and traditional culture of the Maasai people. The conservancy was formed to protect the pristine wildlife area and safeguard the Mara ecosystem while providing a source of livelihood for the Maasai people. Reflect on experiences of the day. Mid-morning you will be transferred to Mara Naboisho Conservancy with a game drive en route.  Arrive at a carefully selected Acacia tree to enjoy a picnic lunch with the backdrop of wildlife – watch out for their predators too! After an exhilarating day exploring the wilderness and witnessing unrivaled wildlife, arrive at a flawlessly recreated mobile camp, with a welcoming fire and sundowner all set up for you. Enjoy a well-prepared dinner by our specially trained chefs, then join the Maasai hosts by the roaring campfire, sharing your day’s experience.

Day 4

Wake up in the middle of the savannah, where breakfast has been set up under an acacia tree – enjoy the privacy of being the only ones here! Later, drive to Pardamant Conservation Area with a brief stop at the foot of Pardamant hills for refreshments by the dam area. The natural water springs form an all-year-round source of water for livestock and the local community living here. Continue to the Maasai Mara Wildlife Training College, an international education and research centre for knowledge-seekers across the globe to study topics ranging from animal migration routes to anthropology and beyond.  Relish in a filling picnic lunch at the Hilltop. You will also learn about the benefits of the conservancy’s triple-use model, where the communities’ landowners have legally registered hectares of their land as a wildlife area while remaining to live and work on it.  Later visit the livestock fattening program to learn how the Maasai are embracing modern ways of livestock rearing.  Wrap up with a visit to one of the Maasai Boma, where you have the chance to see for yourself how the Maasai live and perhaps participate in a traditional cow milking experience. Late afternoon, drive back to Naboisho Conservancy. Enjoy a sundowner, as you admire the incredible savannah before you. As darkness sets in, venture out to see what happens in the African bush at night. Your guide will equip the vehicle with infrared lights to spot the nocturnal animals of Naboisho.  After, drive on to Eagle View for dinner.
