Classic Migration Safari

The great wildebeest migration rightfully deserves its standing as one of the natural world’s most astonishing spectacles. Comprising of more than 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes, the great migration constitutes the last surviving multi-species migration on the planet. From the end of June onwards, millions of freshly arrived brown and black dots scatter the great plains of the Mara, making this natural wonder of the world even more wondrous.

Day 1

As you arrive at Maasai Mara our Maasai Guides are ready to take you on your very first game drive! This is the best time to see the wildebeest migration. Set off in our open 4×4 Safari Land Cruisers. Arrive at Basecamp Masai Mara in time to settle into your room and enjoy some lunch before an afternoon safari. In the afternoon stroll across our private suspension bridge to meet your Maasai Guide for your afternoon game drive. As the sun sets, return to camp for dinner, followed by story-telling around the fireplace.

Day 2-3

Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast before heading out on a full day safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve. Catch the action at the crossing point and stalk the herds just like the lions and the cheetahs, capturing them with your lens and in your heart. Enjoy an exceptional wilderness migration holiday; there is never a dull moment on the savannah. Return to camp at sundown for dinner followed by relaxation at the campfire as you tell of your experiences on the African wilderness.

Day 4

Following a hearty breakfast, our Naturalist Maasai Guide will take you on a Camp Walk. The camp has a lot of eco-initiatives which you may wish to learn about during your stay. Learn about how we support the local Maasai women working at Basecamp Masai Brand, a capacity building that employs about 158 women providing them with income. We also have a tree-planting project aimed to revive the biodiversity of the Talek River. At a minimal fee, you can support our reforestation project by planting your own tree in our reforestation area near the camp.

Day 5

Head out for a final morning game drive. During your safari, you will learn more about the importance of the wildebeest for the survival of the Masai Mara Ecosystem. Wind up with a picnic breakfast overlooking the Mara plains before returning to camp. After lunch, gather your things and say your goodbyes. Reach Olkiombo Airstrip in time for your scheduled 4.00pm flight, the perfect departure time for international connections. As your board your plane, treasure the feeling of arriving as a guest, staying as a friend and leaving as a partner.
