5 day lion safari to Masai Mara and Mara Naboisho

If sighting a lion in the untamed bush is at the top of your bucket list, then join us on African Lion Safari in Mara Naboisho Conservancy now believed to host the highest number of lions in Africa. Since its establishment, Mara Naboisho has been a haven for a number of wildlife including the iconic African lions. Approximately 70 lions call this place home. This safari adventure maximizes your lion viewing opportunities in their natural habitat.

Day 1

Upon your arrival at Olkiombo Airstrip, you will be warmly welcomed by our knowledgeable Maasai Guides, the true savanna specialists ready to take you on your very first game drive en-route to the camp. Hop aboard 4×4 vehicle and embark on a spectacular game viewing. The periods particularly from January to March are very good since it is the peak of wildebeest calving season. The wildebeest calves become easy targets for lions and other predators. Capture shots of herds of elephants, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes and gazelles grazing. You will arrive at your first destination, Basecamp Masai Mara, in time for lunch. Enjoy authentic signature cuisines and gracious hospitality. After a well-deserved lunch, you will be escorted to your tent to allow you to settle into the area and adjust to the pace of safari before your next adventure. Late in the afternoon, you will join your Maasai Guide for an afternoon game drive. In Masai Mara Game Reserve you can expect to see lions regularly and often by the pride. The terrain in the reserve is also mostly open savannah, which makes it easier to see the lions in this magnificent African-dream setting. At sunset, you will stop over at a scenic viewpoint to enjoy Basecamp Sundowner drinks and snacks, stretch your legs as you get ready to head back to camp. Return to Basecamp Masai Mara Camp for a delicious three-course dinner, followed by an interactive session with our naturalists in regards to lions.

Day 2

Rise early in the morning when the animals are most lively for a morning game drive with your Maasai Guide. This is yet another bush experience that will surely create lifetime memories. One of the most sought-after safari experiences is coming across the big cats during a game drive. If you are fortunate enough, you will catch lions during one of their rare bouts of daytime activities. It can be fascinating to watch the social interaction between pride members, especially the playful ways of lion cubs under the watchful eye of their mothers which is particularly delightful scene. Listen to the low growls of a lioness and her cubs. Return to camp for a sumptuous breakfast. After Breakfast, our Naturalist Maasai Guide will take you on a Camp Walk. You will also have time to see some of the community projects supported by Basecamp including Basecamp Masai Brand a community-based handicraft business which aims at using traditional beading practices to help local Maasai women improve their financial independence or visit the Masai Manyatta to learn about Maasai culture and lifestyle. At mid- day you will gather your things and prepare to continue your journey through the Basecamp Circuit. Your next destination is Wilderness Camp in Mara Naboisho Conservancy. This camp is tucked away deep inside the incomparable Saddle Valley and has been designed as a tribute safari of the early explorers. Enjoy an authentic signature lunch. Relax in the afternoon before your next game safari. Late in the Afternoon join your Maasai Guide for an evening game drive. At sunset, you will stop over at a scenic viewpoint to enjoy Basecamp Sundowner drinks and snacks, stretch your legs as you get ready for the thrill of a lifetime: Basecamp Night Safari! As darkness sets in, it is your opportunity to see what happens in the African bush at night. Your Maasai Guide will equip the vehicle with infrared lights to allow you to spot the nocturnal animals of Naboisho. The lions are particularly good hunters during night-time, be on their look out. Night Safari is a truly exhilarating experience and is only permitted inside private conservancies. Return to Wilderness Camp for dinner, and story-telling around the fireplace.
