A horseback safari is an adventurous way to discover the pristine beauty of the Masai Mara plains.
From horseback, one gets an entirely different view of Africa as opposed to the typical safari adventure in a vehicle. You get a feel of the terrain, the vastness of the land, the expansiveness of the sky and notice the details that cannot be experienced while driving.
Guests will have an opportunity to venture out for horse rides every morning at 8:00 am and in the afternoon at around 3:00 pm. Enjoy a gentle 2-hour ride exploring the open plains and interacting with the abundant plains game within the Masai Mara. The riding pace will depend on the ability of the group but generally, we keep to a walk or trot and we keep to open areas with good visibility. Throughout your ride expect to encounter a variety of wildlife such as elephant, giraffe, buffalo, eland, zebra, wildebeest, and the graceful impala among others.
The horses are an all-male herd of geldings and stallions, carefully selected for their comfort and nature. You can choose from English, Western or South African trail endurance saddles.
For safety reasons, guests are required to fill out an indemnity form when making their booking. Each ride will be led by two professional horse guides. Riders need to be over 14 years old, weigh no more than 95kgs, have some previous riding experience and be able to mount and dismount, walk and trot, stop and control their horses. All riders will also be required to have a short assessment ride around the stables prior to setting out. We take a maximum of eight people in each riding group to ensure the best possible standards of safety.
All horse rides are at an extra charge of USD 250 per person per ride and reservations must be made and confirmed prior to arrival. Requests can be made when making your booking reservations.
