at the doorstep of Mara national reserve
Basecamp Masai Mara is as much a home as it is a travel destination. Guests become more than visitors, they become part of the Maasai community. Join us around the fireplace, for storytelling and stargazing. This camp is our own cradle of mankind, where our journey once began.
Situated along the Talek river in a tropical forest, you are co-existing with the birds and monkeys in the trees outside your tent.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is just across the river, home to the highest density of wildlife in the world, the Big 5, and the 7th wonder of the world- The Wildebeest Migration.

At Basecamp Masai Mara we offer seventeen double riverside tents, all built along the banks of the Talek River, the natural border to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The dense riverbed foliage allows for maximum privacy and comfort, without compromising the view of the Masai Mara National Reserve. With more than 286 identified bird species, you are certain to wake to a symphony of birdsong while staying at Basecamp Masai Mara.
The camp provides an excellent base for exploring nature conservation like the Basecamp Nature Forest and Community-based initiatives like the Masai Beading Center (Basecamp Maasai Brand) to promote & preserve local culture and talent. While here experience a combination of authentic hosting and cultural immersion in the company of local Maasai hosts and guides.
Each double tent offers king-size double or twin beds, a bathroom featuring bio-flush toilets and two solar-heated showers, one inside and one open-air safari shower, free in-room Wifi, a private deck where you have a direct view of the Masai Mara National Reserve.
The family tent has two separate wings, each featuring a double bed with a shared bathroom area. The tent offers free in-room Wifi, a larger deluxe balcony to give families or groups a chance to socialize in complete privacy.
Dinner is a memorable time of the day, and the option of where to dine is up to you. The camp’s restaurant is located right next to the Talek River with amazing views over the Savannah. Since the restaurant is for communal use, we request all our guests to be courteous towards the people they are sharing the space with and keep their mobile phones in silent mode while enjoying their meals at the restaurant (it is a Mobile-free Zone). We extend this request to the lounge area, where we kindly ask all our guests to keep their phones in silent mode.
The prices are based on per person sharing a tent. Prices include accommodation, all meals, mineral water, airstrip transfers, shared game drive safaris and Masai Mara Park fees. Extra fees are for domestic and international flights. Single supplement is 105 USD per person per night. Children 3-12 years sharing a tent with adults pay 50% of the full rate.
