Our Safari Camps

Your journey through the Basecamp Circuit

Going on safari with Basecamp Explorer is the ultimate way of witnessing the natural wonders of the Maasai Mara. For more than 16 years we have focused on leaving a positive footprint both in the places where we work and in the hearts and the minds of the people we work with. Our close partnership with the Maasai community allows us to create authentic safari experiences for our guests.

Since we began our journey in 1998, Basecamp Explorer Kenya has welcomed three new additions to our family of safari camps: Basecamp Maasai Mara, Eagle View Camp and Wilderness Camp. Our mother camp, Basecamp Maasai Mara, is situated bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, while Eagle View Camp and Wilderness Bush Camp are located within the Naboisho Conservancy, a nature conservancy privately owned by the Maasai people.

Our camps have been carefully designed to expose our guests to different dimensions of the safari experience – as it was, as it is, and as we imagine it can become. Even though each camp offers something unique, the Basecamp signature of first-class service, exquisite wildlife experiences and authentic cultural encounters remains throughout. Together our three camps form an integrated sequence of complimentary experiences, which we have named the Basecamp Circuit. Our aim is that journeying through our Basecamp Circuit will leave our guests filled with joy, a sense of purpose and, ultimately, a longing to participate. Arrive as a guest, stay as a friend, leave as a partner.

Basecamp Masai Mara

Basecamp Masai Mara – fittingly referred to as the ‘mother of all camps’ by our staff – is where our story started. Lovingly run by our Maasai staff – Basecamp Masai Mara is as much a home as it is a tourism destination.

Eagle view

At Eagle View we invite you to gaze towards the future of Sustainable Tourism. Perched atop a natural hilltop, this luxury eco-camp is located within Naboisho Conservancy – a highly acclaimed model for nature conservation management.

Leopard Hill

Leopard Hill offers a unique location in the heart of Mara Naboisho Conservancy to experience the magic of the Kenyan savannah. The camp is situated next to a series of watering holes where the wildlife of the savannah would flock to drink, offering you a chance to observe the African wildlife from a prime spot.

Wilderness camp

Wilderness is our nostalgic tribute to the safaris of the early explorers and safari pioneers. Free from artificial luxury and modern disturbances, Wilderness is safari as it was meant to be. It is only you, the Maasai, the wildlife, and the stars.

Dorobo Mobile Camp

Truly the stuff of legends, the Dorobo spend their lives living off the African savannah, carrying no other protection than their intrinsic understanding of the wilderness. Partake in several days of walking and mobile camping on the savannah.
