Basecamp Spitsbergen
The Concept of Basecamp Spitsbergen
Proud trapping traditions are kept alive in the middle of Longyearbyen. Basecamp Spitsbergen, opened in February 1999, is a hotel apart. With driftwood from the beach, old woodwork from Barentsburg, and slate and sealskins as building materials, we have created a cozy and pleasant basecamp for those wishing to experience Svalbard.
Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen
Have you experienced waking up in a hotel room and not knowing where in the world you are? Most hotels and hotel rooms get more and more alike. At Basecamp Spitsbergen we decided that our guests should never have to doubt that they are on Svalbard.
The Ship frozen into the ice inTempelfjorden
To experience nature on Svaldbard, with the special feeling, the light and the silence, you will have to leave “the city", and the most exclusive and exciting place for unique experiences you will find aboard the schooner Noorderlicht, frozen in the ice covering Tempelfjord. An early walk on the deck before breakfast will give you memories for life and awaken your appetite.
The Kennel in Bolterdalen
We also recommend a visit to the kennel in the Bolterdalen. You will visit here when going on trips with our dog sleighs or when staying in one of our turf huts, but you are also welcome to join us when we come here to attend to the dogs.
Trips and Expedition with the Dogs / Mushing
Discover Svaldbard on dog sleigh as the pioneers did, at one with nature. Slide along and hear the quiet sound of dogs’ paws and the sleigh against the snow. Maybe you will not get as far ahead as the scooter, but you will get closer to the wildlife and the genuine Svalbard experience.
