Community Projects

At Basecamp Rajasthan our challenge is to provide travellers with a sustainable tourism destination – not only leaving the smallest of footprints behind environmentally and culturally, but also contribute positively on a socio economic level. India is a country of more than 1.1 billion people. Poverty is a harsh fact of life for more than 40 %. No other nation on earth has so many uneducated women and homes without access to clean water & waste disposal.

Therefore, we run the Gahr in an environmentally sound way, we contribute to cultural heritage preservation intitiatives, we employ local people and we engage in one of the main challenges in Rajasthan – access to water. We aim to be beneficial to Chandelao village by creating job opportunities and improving people’s livelihood. We believe we are making a difference for the individual.

Sunder Rang - Handicraft from Chandelao
Rajasthan has a rich heritage in producing high quality Arts & Crafts. Silver, jewellery, weaving, embroidery and block printing work from the region is sophisticated and known all over the world.

Basecamp Rajasthan Water & Sanitation Programme
Chandelao village is a heritage village situated in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. The village consists of approximately 2000 inhabitants mainly hindu people. The main challenge of this rural semi desert area is lack of water.


Basecamp Rajasthan Education Support Project
Education is the key to development. The public schools in India are free, 12 grades, from primary school to upper secondary school. In Chandelao, there are schools up to middle school level. In the Chandelao village most boys go to school.
