Summer trekking at Basecamp Isfjord Radio

Basecamp Isfjord Radio is surrounded by nesting eider ducks and barnacle geese, and the beaches and marshes teem with other birds. I really sense the history in the walls of this classic arctic outpost, and feel privileged to be in the midst of such spectacular nature!

Basecamp Isfjord Radio is situated on the outermost part of the Isfjord, on the beautiful Nordenskiöld coast, framed by the majestic Svalbard Mountains and overlooking the open sea. The newly redecorated radio station has charming and cosy rooms, a lounge with a fireplace and a unique and extremely interesting history. Until a few years ago, the radio station was an important connection for telecommunication between mainland Norway and Svalbard. The area surrounding the radio station has an exceptional animal wildlife and a bird sanctuary where we find nesting birds right up to the station’s walls. As well as a wide variety of bird species, you will also be able to see Svalbard Reindeer and Arctic fox, whales, and maybe spot a glimpse of King of the Arctic - a polar bear!
