Basecamp Trapper´s Station - Bolterdalen
We also recommend a visit to the kennel in Bolterdalen. You will visit here when going on tris with our dogs sleighs or when staying in one of our turf huts, but you are also welcome to join us when we come here to attend the dogs.
Baecamp Trapper´s Station in Bolterdalen consists today of an original Trappers hut, a wooden ”Gamme” with open fireplace, secondary station and a dog kennel with 90 happy Alaskan huskies. The dogs will love to take you on a half day trip or longer expeditions. We have developed the area around the dog yard, in a way that allows you to experience an authentic Trapping station with meat stand, traps and other equipment hunters have been using and are still using today during their over wintering in Svalbard. We can also offer a traditional trappers dinner and a lecture telling about trapper’s life as well as other interesting subjects concerning traditions and history of Svalbard.
You may arrange to accompany our handler who feeds the dogs daily. Our trips and activities are arranged so that all our guests will get to know the dogs. On our trips with the dog sleigh you will pick the dogs you prefer and be responsible for strapping them in front of the sleigh. We consider the contact with the dogs, which are easy to master, as an important part of the experience.
At the introduction trips and the trips in the Ice grottos 2 persons will ride together while on longer expeditions you will have your own sleigh for which you will be responsible.
There will of course be seasoned guides nearby at all times if you need assistance.
Distance from Longyearbyen to Basecamp Trapper´s station is 10km.
