Summer dog sledding!
Join us for dog sledding in the summer time. This time of year we’re sledding on wheels! No previous knowledge of dog sledding is required.
You’ll meet the guide in the reception at Basecamp Spitsbergen Hotel in the middle of Longyearbyen. We’ll then drive the 12km to the kennel in our Trapping Station in Bolterdalen Valley. Here you’ll be met by our 85 happy Alaskan Huskies who eagerly wait for you to take them for a run. The guide will teach you the principles of mushing (driving a dog sled) and you get to harness your own team of dogs. Two persons share one cart. The trip follows dirt roads through parts of Adventdalen Valley. During this time of the year we’ll normally see a rich bird life, Svalbard Reindeers and the colorful flowers of the arctic tundra. Well back in the Trapping Station we first unharness and cuddle with the dogs. Thereafter we’ll have a closer look at the Trapping Station while being served a hot drink and some warm cake, baked in true trapper style on the wood burning oven in the cabin. Welcome on a nice trip with us! Ps – don’t forget your camera.
