Celebrating World Lion Day
August 10, is a day dedicated to people from across the world to pay tribute to the mighty lion in as many ways as possible. It is also a time to help raise the awareness needed for the conservation of lions around the world.
Millions of lions roamed the globe 2,000 years ago, but only about 20,000 remain today, living primarily in Africa. The lion species has been under grave threat due to loss of habitat, poaching, and poisoning. To help safeguard these amazing cats, Basecamp partners with Kristiansand Dyrepark and Strømme Foundation in support of the Mara Predator Project in Mara Naboisho Conservancy.
Today Mara Nabosiho Conservancy has one of the highest lion densities in Africa with a population of more than 70 identified lions.
