Footsteps of the Dorobo

4 day Mara Walking Safari

Experience the magic of the African Bush on foot with Basecamp Explorer where you not only get to see Africa’s magnificent landscapes and wildlife but you’ll also get to hear, smell, feel, taste and intimately sense what our earliest ancestors and later explorers experienced travelling on foot. This adventure is perfect for active and adventurous travellers who want something different out of their bush experience. Get up close and personal with Africa’s wildlife, while treading the same path’s our ancestors did.

Day 1

Upon arrival at Ol Seki airstrip, you will meet our friendly and knowledgeable Maasai guide standing by ready to take you on your first safari game drive enroute to Wilderness Camp. This will give you a perspective of the wildlife and scenery at Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Naboisho Conservancy was formed to protect the pristine wildlife area and safeguard the Mara ecosystem while providing a source of livelihood to the Maasai people. Enjoy a wonderful game viewing experience. Arrive at Wilderness Camp in time for lunch. This is our intimate bush camp tucked away deep inside Saddle Valley where you will enjoy ultimate seclusion free from artificial luxury and modern disturbances. After lunch, you will be escorted to your tent to allow you to unwind and adjust to the pace of safari in Africa before your next adventure. At 4:00 pm, you will meet your guide for an afternoon game drive. Big cat viewing is particularly interesting in the late afternoons. See immense herds of grazing mammals covering the Naboisho plains with signs of the numerous predators preparing to hunt. Return to camp for dinner followed by relaxation at the campfire as you let the lull of the savannah soothe you.

Spend two to three hours following game paths then have a short rest under the clear blue African skies. Enjoy snack delights before resuming your walk. Expect to see, a variety of bird species adding to the game viewing enjoyment. In the mid-afternoon you will gather under an acacia tree for a well-deserved lunch. After lunch you will retreat to a period of relaxation as you prepare for an afternoon walk. After an exhilarating day exploring the wilderness and witnessing an unrivalled wildlife, you will find a flawlessly recreated camp and campfire awaiting you. Enjoy a well prepared dinner with the freshest ingredients by our specially trained chefs. You will also savour a favorite wine or beer then, retire by the roaring campfire as you share your day’s experience.
