Cleaning your travel
Trees. Thousands of trees! Planted by Basecamp. Cleaning the air. Sucking up CO2 from your air-travel to Svalbard, France, Kenya or India.
Plant a tree (or ten! ) with Basecamp in Kenya or India, and really feel the power of the elements – soil, sun, water, Life! Or tune in to that good feeling by supporting our Trees for Life project from home.
Your hands and knees might get dirty at Basecamp’s tree nursery, but your travel will be "cleaned". The little sapling you just stuck in the earth will soon help bring back endangered birds, insects and other animals, provide shade for livestock, prevent soil erosion, improve water quality, provide firewood through Basecamp’s sustainable harvesting program, and not least, suck up CO2 from the atmosphere, convert it to high-quality wood, and thus help slow global warming.
You can of course spend all your time in Masai Mara watching the amazing wildlife from any of our many safari options. But we’re pretty sure you will get even more out of your Basecamp experience if you know you have actually helped that wildlife, just through the simple gesture of putting that sapling in the ground and giving it some life-giving water. Our dedicated forestry staff, who are from the communities that benefit from the trees, guarantee that your tree will grow big and strong and improve the quality of Life - all around it.
As a step towards our goal of becoming climate neutral, Basecamp Spitsbergen will, from 1st of January 2008, add a “climate investment” of NOK 250,- per guest. The fee will be invested in the Basecamp Foundation’s tree planting project in Masai Mara, Kenya. The trees bind CO2. This helps reduce the impacts of the emissions generated by our operations - and by your travels.
