Responsible travel
What is it all about ?
Its being able to feel good when you travel. Knowing that the local people, the nature and the wildlife all benefit from your trip - and from what you leave behind. At the Basecamp Foundation we strive to make your travel more than just a trip. By ensuring energy-efficient operations, compensating for emissions, empowering local staff, strengthening cultural expression, and protecting the environment, the Basecamp Foundation adds value to your trip, making it a journey with real meaning.
At Basecamp we have started our own carbon-capture project. We monitor a large and growing plantation in Kenya. Here we plant trees to bind CO2, thus offsetting the emissions caused by our business, from 2009 including all guest flights, This reflects our core principles: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Global warming is not only threatening mankind. If you care for lions, rhinos and antilopes you should also be worried - but there are solutions ! In hot spots around the world are conservationists like Basecamp working with locals on the ground, ensuring that the protection of endangered species is tied to the welfare of the people who live closest to them. Basecamps responsible travel is securing that the locals have an economic stake in preserving wildlife rather than destroying it.
"If you don`t get the support of the people living near a conservation area, it`s just a matter of time before its lost, " says Lars Lindkvist, Chief environmentalist in Basecamp Foundation.
