Basecamp Explorer (former Ecco Travel Group) was established at the beginning of 1998, and is the parent company of subsidiaries/tourist activities in Norway, Kenya, India and France.

With pride, wisdom and an unbending desire to influence the future of his people, Ole Taek welcomed Basecamp to Masai Mara more than 10 years ago.

Our business model is built on a foundation of respect and honour for nature, and for our fellow human beings.

Your climate footprint is measured when you travel with Basecamp. Our goal: 1. ....is to make sure your footprint is as small as possible. 2. ... is to offset what we (and you) can't reduce. This we do through tree planting.

In the ten years since Basecamp started its first camp in the Masai Mara, the climate challenge has become ever more daunting.

Guest air travel is a substantial contributor to Basecamp’s overall emissions, but is difficult to reduce without undermining the core business model.

Grace started in the reception and is now the only masai women working as camp manager in Kenya. Here is her story:
