“For leadership in ecotourism and commitment to best practice tourism"
Basecamp Masai Mara already received its first eco-certification 3 years ago. The consistent work in improving and strengthening its operations, community projects and wildlife conservation has paid-off and, through an independent audit last week, it was concluded that the camp was “an outstanding example of carrying out replicable tourism and best tourism practices. Highlights of the Basecamp model include: The Maasai Brand and its local arts and crafts industry, the use of environmentally friendly energy techniques and waste management, reforestation schemes in close partnership with the local community, not withstanding educational support and job creation for local people, particularly targeting women".
Amos Ole Tinnia (guest relations manager) and Lars Lindkvist (managing director) at Basecamp Masai Mara celebrated together when the announcement was made in Nairobi and expressed their gratitude through their colleagues to all the visiting guests at Basecamp Masai Mara and especially those who have engaged in supporting the community and conservation projects over the years.
